Our Programs

Master Gardener

The Colorado State University Master Gardener program is an 10 week comprehensive program that covers soils, insects, diseases, water use, weeds, plant health care, vegetables, tree planting, plant identification, grasses, and other plant related topics. Master Gardener apprentices are required to complete 50 hours of volunteer service to the community. Colorado Gardening Certificates are available without the volunteer commitment for a higher fee. The program is mainly delivered through live, interactive distance education over the internet at a location in Montezuma County. The all day, once a week, classes usually begin in mid-January are limited in size. Applications for the Colorado Master Gardener program are usually available in November.

Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

Early March is the time for the annual "hands-on" fruit tree pruning workshop held at the CSU Extension Orchard / Vineyard Demonstration Project in Yellow Jacket. Participants learn the "how to" and "how not to" prune techniques for fruit trees of various ages and types. Please call the local CSU Extension in Dolores County (970-677-2283) or Montezuma County (970-565-3123) for details.
